Stone Information Panel

Rosscarbery has a wide and varied collection of Stone Walls. Local stone has been used for all wall
types from roadside construction to Piers and buildings. Typical dwellinghouses were built with
local stone and thatch roof. In later years slate from the Benduff Slate Quarry was used. Local slate
was an important building material but in particular for the Rosscarbery area as it was available
locally. Information panel shows details on local stone building. Located at Cross Lane junction.
Rosscarbery has many fine examples of stone wall building. The Causeway and adjacent walls are a
fine example of stone work. The Cathedral has wonderful construction detail. The Catholic Church,
the Convent and Ardagh Boys School are other examples of excellent stone building.
